Social Gaming 09 - Roskilde Festival
Thursday 25th June 2009
Most people familiar with Roskilde eSport know that this small (but steadily growing) association is actively involved in making eSports and gaming in general, more accepted amongst the mainstream population of Denmark.
One of the main goals of this association is to break the stereotypical idea that gaming is for bums and low lifes, and to show that gaming can be sociable, fun and educating, both as a hobby and as a sport.
Spearheaded by Chairman Jens Christian Ringdal, several national and international projects have been created since Roskilde eSport's birth, projects like eSport Danmark and the-eXperience.
However, one project might not be known to the people outside of Denmark, namely Social Gaming in cooperation with Roskilde Festival. In 2008 this project was launched as a trial and the goal was to introduce gaming and eSports to the more than 100.000 people that attend this infamous 4-day festival. An Agora tent placed on the outskirts of the camping area offered festival goers gaming and eSports activities on both console and PC's.
The project was a huge success, and as a result this year Roskilde Festival have decided to expand the cooperation and introduce a 300 square meter interactive Social Gaming tent with a very central placement, only a few hundred feet from the infamous Orange Stage.

An illustration of how the tent will look inside.
Over 100 volunteers - including players from Roskilde Ravens - will be working on this project over the course of 10 days. Supported by partners such as Intel, Activision, EA, Kingston, D-Link and the Danish computer retailer MM-Vision.dk - people who pass through the tent will have the opportunity to play and compete in titles such as Need for Speed - Shift, FIFA 2009, and even the brand new Guitar Hero Metallica.

Spitting distance from Orange stage. It's gonna be busy!
Now only a few days away from construction, the suspense is slowly building towards this years festival and hopefully it will be a blast for both music lovers and gamers alike.
May the weather gods bless with sunshine, and if you happen to be attending Roskilde Festival 2009, make sure to drop by the Social Gaming tent located in the centre of the corridor between Orange, Junior Pavillion and Arena stages and say hi!
Roskilde Festival 2009 takes place July 2-5th and the Social Gaming tent will be open all 4 days.
