IEM EC Finals - Day 2 Recap

Saturday 16th January 2010

Roskilde Ravens CS 1.6 got off to a bad start on Day 2 of the  Intel Extreme Masters European Championship Finals, but managed to redeem themselves in the Relegation match.

The team started out the day with their 5th Groupstage match against the infamous SK Gaming. The match was played on de_inferno, and Ravens mostly looked like a team that hadn't gotten a proper nights sleep or else they simply had to much respect for the experienced Swedes. Safe to say it was a fairly one-sided match, where SK closed the game at 16-6 (final score: 24-6).

Since mousesports had won over Meet Your Makers in their match, Ravens managed to claim 2nd place in the Group, and were now set for a Relegation match against the other Groups 3rd place team, which eventually turned out to be the French team oXmoze.

The Relegation match (bo3) proved to be somewhat of a spectacle as Ravens started out very well winning the first map de_nuke with 16-12. The 2nd map then went in the complete opposite direction as oXmoze held a strong defence on de_inferno winning the map with an impressive 16-1 score. By now everyone expected Ravens morale to be completely down the drain, but the Danes showed exactly what kind of material they're made of, as they started out great on de_tuscan winning the first half (terrorists) 10-5. oXmoze seemed unwilling to fight for the eventual win once the teams switched sides and Ravens played a strong defence, claiming overall victory at 16-9.

This means Ravens have secured 2.500$ and a top 4 finish at the IEM European Championship Finals. Initially being predicted by numerous sites, this is deffinatly something nobody could have imagined in their wildest dreams, and an accomplishment the team truly can be proud of.

Saturday, Ravens will be put to their biggest test so far, as the team will face what is arguably the best team in the world Fnatic in the Semifinal which is scheduled to be played at 19:45 CET. The match ofcourse be broadcasted live on ESL TV, so make sure to tune in and support our boys in their extremely difficult task ahead!
